Mel Tormé found an adoptive home in London, where this record was made and where he was always well served by arrangers - and by audiences. Five of the songs are Tormé's own - including two acknowledged classics, 'Born to be Blue' and 'The Christmas Song' - and he does six by the underrated team of Schwartz and Dietz. These numbers had been featured in that great Fifties Hollywood musical, 'The Bandwagon', which, at the time that this LP was made, wasn't recognized for the landmark film that it is.
