This is only the second recording date that Elvin has had that I know of under his own name, and it is a very good one indeed. His choice of musicians and instrumentation is very interesting. He uses Sonny Simmons, Prince Lasha and Charles Davis. These musicians are of the new breed, avant-garde but with the substance that could lead to classicism. To keep a familiar foundation, he uses pianist McCoy Tyner and bassist Jimmy Garrison, also a very gifted musician, knows what Elvin wants and needs and supports him all the way. Each one has put his say into the record with original compositions.
