According to a solid established tradition, Lionel Hampton's orchestra had settled into the Olympia with a vengeance : they topped the bill for three weeks. The management have been generous with the tickertape, and it flew all over the seats, meeting with disapproval from the purist, but most spectators were overjoyed. 'Battle of saxes', and the inexhaustible 'Hey-ba-ba-re-bop' released a delirium that even Hampton couldn't quite calm...and as for the beldam that greeted those brave enough to open for the band, t was almost indescribable. Suffice it to say that 'Ruppert's Dancing Bears' did their best...
